Tommy Coomes’ unique combination of skills has meant significant contributions to contemporary Christian music for four decades—and counting.

In the 1970s, Tommy was a member of the pioneering CCM group, Love Song. He launched Maranatha! Music’s creative department and produced hundreds of recordings, including the popular Praise album series. In 1989, he founded The Praise Band to explore new forms of worship and evangelism with Greg Laurie, which led to working with Franklin Graham and developing the music teams for Promise Keepers. The Tommy Coomes Band (www.TommyCoomesBand.com) has recorded 15 albums. Using a mix of worship and evangelism, they minister with Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association from the stadiums of North America to the barrios of El Salvador.

Through his new company, Music Compass (www. MusicCompass.com), Tommy is committed to mentoring the next generation of musical artists, songwriters and worship leaders, to influence our culture to pursue a personal relationship with God. His favorite Scripture is, “He has put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3 NIV).

He and his wife, Shelley, are California natives who have recently moved to Nashville, TN. Their two sons, Tyler and Erick, are professional musicians who reside in Los Angeles.

“Tommy Coomes is a pioneer in the area of praise and worship. He has been a true innovator and has touched the lives of thousands of people all over the world.”

—Michael Coleman, President, Integrity Media “The Tommy Coomes Band is one of the greatest praise & worship teams in the country. They have been together for 20 years and have been at almost every crusade I have done around the world.”
