Fred Field
Over the years, Fred has worked in music as player, songwriter, and producer. His career began in groups that played in clubs from Las Vegas to the legendary Sunset Strip—artists they appeared with were a veritable “who’s who” of pop music. Since then, he has performed as a soloist or with a band on five continents, touring frequently in the U.S. and throughout Europe (East and West). As a producer, he has worked for CBS in Israel and independently in the U.S., Europe, and Canada, with projects in five different languages. The breadth of Fred’s experience includes film (e.g., various documentaries, and for MacGillvray-Freeman Films’ Five Summer Stories), as player for an NBC television series, Radio Luxembourg, just about anything with music, even creating music for a theme-park ride for Lotte World, in Seoul, Korea.
In contemporary Christian music, Fred has written or co-written dozens of published and recorded songs. His experience spans countless recordings and appearances with a wide variety of artists. Projects include a solo LP on Maranatha Music, Fred Field and Friends; musicals Through These Eyes, the Gospel According to Luke and its sequel, The Book of Acts; plus two projects released in Germany with fellow Love Song alumnus, John Mehler, the Mehler-Field Band Live (a live, double-LP), and a studio effort, Life Support.
Due to an interest in language, Fred returned to school. This has led to a doctorate in linguistics at the University of Southern California (1998) and a second career in teaching. His studies began at Tel Aviv University in the late 1970s and continued in the U.S. to include a BA and two MAs. A published author in linguistics, Fred is a frequent speaker in the U.S. and abroad. He is currently a tenured professor at California State University, Northridge, still very active in music.
